Customer Rating: Summary: Love my G2 Comment: This is a great pen. It feels good, clicks good, and writes good. It produces a very bold looking black ink, and flows over the paper smoothly. It has a nice firm click with a good sound. My main gripe, though, is that the ink smears very easily if not dried all the way, and water completely ruins this ink. But I suppose those are the price to pay for gel ink; which looks so good and flows so smoothly. Overall a great everyday pen at a great price.
Customer Rating: Summary: The Smoothest Flowing Pen Comment: I'm not one to really ooh-and-aah about pen aesthetics. I'm interested in just a few things: 1) comfort, 2) reliability, and 3) smoothness. The G2 Fine point gels provide the smoothest writing experience I've had. They seem reliable enough.
These are not particularly ergonomic, but they get the job done at a very reasonable price. Note that the extra-fine 0.5 mm versions have considerably more drag than the 0.7 mm.
(For those who don't like the design, but love the ink - I've discovered that the refills will fit into many of the Rotring pens - some of which are beautiful and some uglier than an aardvark's inbred cousin.)
Customer Rating: Summary: top-notch Comment: I'm a writer, I evaluate pens the way a connoisseur does wines. Obviously, this isn't some $50 masterpiece of a pen that you save for -- well, whatever someone would want to use a pen that expensive for (writing checks to your butler?).
But I chew through piles of disposable pens, and after trying this one I came to Amazon to buy a bunch of them. They work reliably, have a comfortable grip in the hand, and, unlike a lot of other smooth-flowing pens, the ink dries quickly enough that I don't wind up with smudges on the page and ink on my hands.
It seems like the pen companies create and destroy models willy-nilly these days, but as long as these are available, they're my pick for a great general-purpose pen. (And just in case anyone out there is looking for a great "keeper" pen, I highly recommend the Fisher Space Pen. Easy to keep in a pocket, writes flawlessly.)
Customer Rating: Summary: Great most of the time... Comment: When the ink flows, this pen writes very smoothly with even lines. The gel ink dries fast enough that I rarely run into any smearing unless I'm writing on an unusual surface...so caution if you write on non-paper surfaces or glossier papers.
Unfortunately, about 1/2 of these pens (I use them both at work and at home) run into ink stoppages. Sometimes you can get the ink flowing again, but many times you just have to throw them away. This is very frustrating as the ink stoppages have occurred in meetings (several now) where I can't get to a new pen, and I really shouldn't have to carry around 2 pens just in case.
Customer Rating: Summary: Good Pen Comment: I don't care how it looks, this pen is functionally proficient. When my local retailer stopped stocking them, instead of selecting an alternative, I held out and found another source for this specific pen.
