Customer Rating: Summary: The Copyeditor's Handbook Comment: The book took quite a bit longer to arrive than I anticipated, but it is in great shape.
Customer Rating: Summary: The Communicator's Library Comment: The Copyeditor's Handbook was purchased to supplement The Chicago Manual of Style, The Associated Press Stylebook, The Elements of Style, and Fowler's Modern English Usage. Not only does it give tons of information for writers and communicators of all levels, but it also allows one to fine-tune their skills with exercises. Well worth it! I learn something new each time I pick it up!
Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent introduction to copyediting Comment: This is a careful, methodical, and yet quite entertaining introduction to the basic skills of copyediting. Each chapter introduces a new element and ends with exercises to reinforce and test your knowledge. The glossary at the end of the book is also a useful reference, particularly in refreshing your knowledge of grammar.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not for book publishing Comment: All major publishing houses use Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, 11th ed., as their preferred spelling standard. There the noun is "copy editor": two words, not one as in the title of this book. Therefore, anyone using this reference work and hoping to work in the field is at an immediate disadvantage. Take my word for it: I have worked at and for major literary houses for decades, and letters requesting work as a "copyeditor" do not inspire confidence in the writer's aptitude.
Customer Rating: Summary: Copyeditor's Handbook Comment: I was very pleased with the way this purchase was handled from start to finish.
